Analyze the learning needs
An instructional designer should conduct requirement research, and they should know who is the target audience? What are their learning needs? What is the purpose of the training? At the end, it’s all about catering to your target audience and their needs, skills, and sensibilities.
Content analysis
In course designing process, content is the most essential part. An instructional designer should have a clear understanding of learning requirements and decide the outline of the courses. The content analysis process involves adding content, removing irrelevant content, and decide the structure of the eLearning courses
Choose the instructional strategies
Based on the audience analysis, learning needs, and content analysis instructional designer selects appropriate instructional strategies and training techniques as well as and select the media formats suitable for the training. The instructional strategies include storytelling, case studies, simulation training, guided learning by using characters and avatars.
Designing a storyboard
After framing learning goals, and course outline creation, the next task of an instructional designer, is designing a storyboard. Here, they add appropriate text, audio, videos, visuals, and interactive elements and create assessment tasks. Designer uses a storyboard as a blueprint for the final product and starts writing a narrative script for the course.
Evaluation
After the course is created, the next task is to review the content. Make sure the course has been beneficial and sufficient for learners’ future personal and professional growth. It is important to check language, clarity, bullets, consistency, etc., and finally, check whether the course is developed in the way you visualized it to be.
